Other Types of Poker Games
Poker is a favorite game for millions. Poker became very popular in the early 21st century with the advent of online poker as well as hole-card camera. Due to TV broadcasts the poker play has spectators who keep waiting to catch the excitement of the game.
There are many varieties of poker. The rules remain almost the same, it main difference lies in the way cards are dealt, how the hands are to be formed and the showdown. At showdown the pot might go to the player with highest or lowest hand or is shared between them, depending on the particular game played. Let’s take us through some very common types of poker games.

TEXAS HOLDEM: This is by far the most popular game of poker card games. It can be played with minimum two to maximum ten players. Here each player receives two cards which are face down and can be only seen by the player and five cards known as the community cards which are face up which are to be shared by all the players. The game consists of four betting rounds. At showdown the player expose their cards to all, and the one with the best hand of cards wins the game and gets the pot. There is a dealer button which identifies all the players as dealers. The player left of the dealer places the small bet while the player to the left of this player places the big bet. The game proceeds in a clockwise direction.
OMAHA: This one is also a very common poker game. Here four hole cards are dealt to each player and there are five community cards to be shared by all the players. Each player must use only two hole cards and three community cards to make a combination of five cards. Omaha can be of two types i.e. Omaha-Hi and Omaha Hi-lo. In Omaha-Hi, at showdown the player with best hands wins. But in Omaha Hi-lo, the best hand and worst hand share the pot. The rest of the game remains the same as Texas Holdem with four betting rounds.
SEVEN CARD STUD: This is another common game of poker. It can be played between two to eight members. It consists of five betting rounds. Each player gets three hole cards and four community cards. The players must make the combination of five cards from the given seven cards. At the seven card stud showdown the player with the best hand wins the pot. In this game, before the cards are given out, all the players must contribute to the ante which is the mandatory bet. The other rules of the game remain almost the same. There is another variety of this game known as Stud-8, where at showdown the player with the best hand of cards and the player with lowest hand of the cards share the pot.
There are other games of poker as well like the Razz, Caribbean Stud poker and Five Card Draw. But we have discussed the most common ones.
